February 14, 1929: The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre
On February 14, 1929 four men dressed as police officers enter gangster Bug Moran’s headquarters on North Clark Street in Chicago, line up seven of Moran’s henchmen against the wall, and shoot them to death. The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, was ordered by Al Capone after Bugs Moran had set a bounty on Al Capone’ head.
The massacre became the last confrontation between Al Capone and Bugs Moran, Capone was jailed in 1931 and Moran had lost so many important men that he could no longer control his territory.
